Royce R. Thomas, Chancellor. The opening page of the register, as are most of the entries, is in French. Grand Prairie Historical Society is again indebted to Nicole Wable Hatfield (Mrs. Gene), Professor of Languages, University of Central Arkansas, Conway, for this translation: "I, undersigned priest sent by Monseigneur Joseph Rosati, Bishop of St. Louis, to Arkansas Post, on his order to manage the spiritual affairs of Arkansas Territory, cer-tify this register is to record baptisms, marriages and funerals at Arkansas Post, and that it contains 184 sheets, including this one, all annotated and signed. "This, I, undersigned certify this 25th day of April 1832. /S/ EM. SAULNIER" First recorded act is dated 9 Dec 1831; the last, 20 May 1848. Dorothy Jones Core "A STRIDE FORWARD? LOCAL COMPANY BUYS CURTIS J-N-4 AEROPLANE: DELIVERY SOON "A company of DeWitt business men have purchased a new Curtis J-N-4 model aeroplane. They plan to do regular commercial flying and also to do extensive advertising for DeWitt. The machine will be in charge of Supt. Ed McCuiston of the DeWitt High school, who for more than a year served in the Pursuit Division of the U. 3. Army. "In the purchase of this plane DeWitt leads all other small Arkansas cities and exhibits a spirit of real enterprise. With an aeroplane and a booster club we can proceed to pin DeWitt*s name to the skies that the whole world may "read her title clear". "It is understood that the machine will be delivered to Mem-phis about the latter part of this month and fly from that city to DeWitt." The editors solicit a follow-up to this "teaser" concerning the history of aviation in Arkansas county copied from the front page of the May 13, 1920, DEWITT NEW ERA. RE: FARRELLY ... "Lt. Patrick Farrelly, U. 3. Army, whose honorable and meritorious services in the Mexican War have won for him a char-acter for cospicuous gallantry, is now in the city. Dorothy Jones Core "A STRIDE FORWARD? LOCAL COMPANY BUYS CURTIS J-N-4 AEROPLANE: DELIVERY SOON "A company of DeWitt business men have purchased a new Curtis J-N-4 model aeroplane. They plan to do regular commercial flying and also to do extensive advertising for DeWitt. The machine will be in charge of Supt. Ed McCuiston of the DeWitt High school, who for more than a year served in the Pursuit Division of the U. 3. Army. "In the purchase of this plane DeWitt leads all other small Arkansas cities and exhibits a spirit of real enterprise. With an aeroplane and a booster club we can proceed to pin DeWitt*s name to the skies that the whole world may "read her title clear". "It is understood that the machine will be delivered to Mem-phis about the latter part of this month and fly from that city to DeWitt." The editors solicit a follow-up to this "teaser" concerning the history of aviation in Arkansas county copied from the front page of the May 13, 1920, DEWITT NEW ERA. RE: FARRELLY ... "Lt.
