Diocese of Baton Rouge Office of the Archivist Department of the Archives P.O. box 2028 1800 South Acadian Thruway Baton Rouge, LA 70821 May 24, 1973 Mrs. Norman W. Core Route 1 Almyra, Ark. 72003 Dear Mrs. Core: On your Francoeur marriage of 1770, I find in the Pointe Coupee records that Susane Francoeur, native of "Akensas" [Arkansas] and daughter of Joseph Francoeur and Agnes. married on 5 June 1770, Pierre Julien Chevalier de Montcherveaux, son of Jean Francois Tixerant de Moncherveaux and Agnes DuChassin. Then in 1779 (12 April), the widow Suzanne Moncaroux(?) married Jean Baptiste Fafart, son of Joseph Fafart. A sister of Moncherveaux, Marie Anne Moncherveaux, daughter of ..(.?.)... Moncherveaux, "ancien capitaine," and Marie Agnes Chassin, married 21 September 1767 Pierre Clermont, son of Charles and Marie Amelin. Clermont was the widower of Elizabeth LeVergne at the time of this marriage. A Marie Froise Clermont baptized in 1783 was the daughter of one Joseph Clermont and Josephe Lapointe. I find no baptisms for Francoeur or Mon(t)cherveaux [Montcherveaux]. There are no records of any Paiche or Peche. On Maison there is a Claudine buried in 1752 at Pointe Coupee. There are also a couple of Masson entries which seem to have no connection: one in 1763 married a Bonaventure; two Masson baptisms in the 1750's to Anne Robert wife of Sieur Masson, Anne Robert being buried in 1764. One Charles Lambert dit Dauphine was buried in 1760. On all the other surnames given in your letter of the 21st, I find nothing. On Jardelas, there is a marriage application in 1786 between Joseph Renes, of Mallorca, with Carlota Tardelat (this is the way the name looked to me in the Spanish record), native of las Arcas, aged 16, daughter of Pedro Tardelat and Maria Landoc. It is interesting to know that Marie Songy called Languedoc is the full name. The Tardelat-Renes marriage application is from my published abstracts of The Notarial Acts of Estevan de Quinones, 1785-1786 (Book Two of the Louisiana Ancestry Series, 1966). The original records of (Quinones, a Royal Notary in the Spanish regime, are in the Notarial Records office in New Orleans. I do not have a complete set of the Louisiana Genealogical Register here in the office, but I think my indices to "Miscellaneous" Records of St. Joseph Cathedral must have antedated December 1969 when I began abstracting the Spanish West Florida records for the Register. ... I have just thought of a file in the office where this information might be and I find that it (they) begin in June 1969 issue, continue in September 1969 and conclude in December 1969.
