Rt. 1 Almyra, Ark. 72003 28 May 1977 Albert J. Robichaux, Jr. 780 Terry Parkway Gretna, La. 70053 Dear Albert, Since you are more the age of my sons (three ranging from 36 to 25), I presume first name...O.K.???? For over a week I have been working on gathering together all my FRANCOEUR notes (scribbled here and there) into some semblance of order to share with you. I got fitted for some new glasses in the interim and the darn things have worried me no end! Had to give up doing anymore than my routine "bread-and-butter' accounting for about a week. Some improvement and over the Memorial Day weekend now I hope to get caught up in several areas here. These four pages are arranged chronologically. There are many things not discovered but it is a working background for the investigation. You will notice that the only record I had of the marriage of your CHENIER-FRANCOEUR In 1771 was from Conrad's ABSTRACT. It gave the mother of the prospective bride as Marianne not Agnes so the idea of Joseph having more than one wife never entered in my figuring. The Moncherveaux-Francoeur does give Agnes ____(?) Conclusions I make from this.... Joseph Francoeur was married before 1742 and settled in Arkansas before that date, on the basis that the widow of Pierre Pertuis dit La Geneury was 30 yrs old when she died in New Orleans in 1772. His death would seem to have taken place between 1766-Dec 1768. The St. Charles Records per Conrad's ABSTRACT tell of NANETTE FRANCOEUR, minor dau. of the late Joseph Francoeur and the late Marie Francoeur, about l6 years old, on 10-26-1772 selecting Joseph Dusseau de la Croix as her tutor. He would not have died very long before 1772 minus 16 or 1756 the approx. time of Nanette's birth and would have had to be dead by the time DeClouet made the Ark. Post census in 1786 wherein she is listed as "widow" Francoeur. From the 1768 census, it appears there were at least three sons and 7 daughters. The daughters can all be accounted for. There is only one son named as heir. JANOT, but references seem to indicate there were others. How Pierre Pertuis became a 'heir-at-law' of Francis Francure in Ark. in 1816... can't figure out. Quite sure that Pierre was the son of a dau. of Joseph and Marie Francoeur but he surely was not the only Francoeur descendant about????? Of course, have no way of knowing whether this Francis Francure is a son or grandson of the original Joseph Francoeur. So,...know quite a bit but still a lot not known! Alice Forsyth wrote that Mrs. Vidrine reported having found some Arkansas records in St. Louis. I am most anxious to learn concerning. Have you checked with her?? Is she a sharing person?? Will appreciate any information. Currently I am concentrating on a de Vaugine summary for our October BULLETIN. I started the series I have been doing on the families in residence at the beginning of the American era with the appraisers selected by the Spanish Commandant and the American official of the Arkansas Post.... Joseph Bogy, Jean Baptiste DesRuisseaux, Pierre LeFevre and Francois Vaugine. I have completed the first three (all French Canadian lines) and am committed now to doing the de Vaugine.
