[Typed letter from Humphrey Theodore Olinde Jr. to Dorothy Core] ["OLINDE'S" Headline] New Roads,Louisiana 70760 April 27th,1990 Mrs. Dorothy Core R.F.D.#1, Almyra, Arkansas 72003 Dear Mrs. Core: I have had some correspondence with Mr. John L. Ferguson,at the Arkansas History Commission, trying to obtain some information relative to an ancestor of mine that lived at Fort Arkansas, and he suggested that I write you,and that you might be able to help me. The ancestor was: Husband: Pierre Henri Perset(Sometimes Presse,Petrocelle,Peutresset,Petreille, Petrecelle,Pebrecel,Petreulle,Petersel,Pitressel)and sometimes with the addition "dit 01inde"(Called Olinde),Wife:(Marie) Francoise Bouton(sometimes Boutton,Buton,Boutin) They lived at Fort Arkansas in the late 1750's and early 1760's, and then moved to Fort Pointe Coupee in Louisiana. I believe that they had three(3) children while living at Fort Arkansas, Pierre, Jean Baptist, and Catherine. Mrs.Core, I believe(I have not been able to substantiate it) that Pierre Persse came over from France as a recruit for the Independent Companies of the Navy from La Citadelle de Re,near Rochefort and La Rochelle,France, departing on April 25th,1758, on the ship "Le Bizarre". He(Pierre) was recruited by Boucher(Recruitment of Boucher). I have never been able to definitely confirm that this Pierre, and my ancestor, are one and the same. If I could find the marriage record of Pierre and Francoise, it may state the place of birth of either,or both. The Pierre who came over on the "Le Bizarre" was born Lamion,Brittany. I have already purchased your "Abstract of Catholic Register of Arkansas 1764-1858" and got some of this information from that source. One thing in the abstract puzzles me. On page 27 it lists the baptisms of Jean Baptist and Pierre Perset(sons of Pierre and Francoise Bouton)among ten acts that had become detached, and lists the baptisms as having taken place on March 11th, 1794. I believe that these baptisms must have taken place in 1764, since they were done by Father Sebastien Louis Meurin, and I believe that Father Meurin left Fort Arkansas in 1764. If the Pierre Presse who came over with the Independent Companies of the French Navy on the "Le Bizarre" is one and the same Pierre Perset who had the children baptized, these baptisms would have had to have taken place before 1765,as Pierre Henri Petrocelle dit Olinde, and his wife,Francoise Bouton, were living in Fort Pointe Coupee, In Louisiana, in 1766,and had a child born that year in Fort Pointe Coupee. Mrs.Core, I have ordered acopy of your book "Arkansas Colonials 1686-1804" from the Grand Prairie historical Society,in the hope that I could obtain some information from that source.
