Monday Sept. 26, 1892 My dear Papa: To-morrow the Caribbee is expected, so I will try and have a letter ready for you by that time. Your letter was received on Friday and enjoyed very much, and I am so glad and thankful that you remain so well. Now don’t work too hard. I know you will be very glad to have Neva home again, you must have missed her very much indeed. You are accus- tomed I reckon, by this time, not to see me around, but it is very sweet & kind of you to think of old Della so often, & I assure you, you are very very often in my thoughts, and I have you up on the wall where I can look often at you. In your previous letter you asked me to tell you something of the way this Island is governed, so I will try and do so. I am writing this in school, so after school, and after I come back from the Dentist I will write to you as fully as I can. Now I must stop & hear my German. Now it is 5 o’clock. I went to the Dentist, but he said my appointment was for to-morrow; but he lanced an abcess [sic] on one of my

Description | At her father's request Della describes a bit the governance of the Danish West Indies and refers to Mr. Arendrup, the Danish governor of the islands. She mentions a Masonic funeral procession. In this letter also she mentions the cost of a letter (10 cents) and says she will put a number of letters into one and ask family to post them. She remarks about the beautiful weather and the lush countryside with cattle and sugar cane. She mentions again that she is not afraid of getting cholera. |
