Reel 87, Items 3-4
Country band
Galena, Missouri
Item 3. Black Mountain Rag
(This is recorded at a square dance. Good break down music. The dancers
can be heard, both their feet and their whoops.)
Mitchell: He's picking the fiddle with his hands now.
Item 4. Mitchell's description of the square dance.
Now they're right in the middle of a fast square dance. We're
in a little old tin-roofed building, and there are people here from
the rural community. They're crowded up into three squares. Each
square has its own caller. We have some awfully fast music, and its
hard to tell what's going on.
It's eleven o'clock at night and the dance is well under way.
... Hilarity is complete throughout the whole bunch. There aren't
any condescending elders sitting around — there don't seem to be.
They all seem to be on the same level completely.
