Mrs Richard L Holt 1st Sgt R.L.Holt Fayetteville Btry "B" 936th FA Bn. RFD #5 Arkansas A.P.O.464 % P/M Ny, Ny. September 2, 1944 Italy My Dearest Sweetheart. Good afternoon my sweet; and how are you this nice afternoon? as for myself I am still making it ok. I only wish that this heat wave would break. We have had two weeks now that the temperature hasent fallen much below a hundred and some days goes higher than that. Honey, I dont know wheather I will be able to fill a page or not, there just isnt enough going on over here to keep a fellow awaake hardley, I have laid around so much the last week, that I am not fit for anything. Sgt. Roach is doing most of the work that I normally do and as a result I just sit and hold my hands. I havent been so lucky the last two days, no mail but guess I will get some tomorrow. Honey from the sound of the news today it is likely that we will soon wind up this little ball of yarn in Italy. I am wondering if it wont be France for us then. I would really like to go there since the invasion is over, it would be somewhat like we have been doing over here except that I dont believe we would ever do much fighting over there. Honey I have been reading a bunch of papers that I got the other day and from the sounds of them the race for US Senator must have been a close one. But I rather expect that Bill Fulbright will be elected in the general election. There must have been a lot of mud slinging going on also. The piece that was in the south west you had packed with the fruit cake, was pretty rotten. I dont agree with some of them about his not being in the army, after all some one has to do his job and I think he is well qualfide for the job, and can more good there than he would in the army. Honey I have been sitting here for almost an hour getting this much written. I just finished a day dream if you want to call it that. I have been wondering what you are doing. Honey I can close my eyes and see you just as plain as if you were standing in front of me. The last few nights have been pretty & moon light ones. Last night I just oouldent stay put any where so just took a long walk all by myself. It was just one of those night that I missed you somethin awful. Well I guess I had better get off this. This isnt a very good place to express my feelings. These V Mails are alright but to many people have a chance to read them. Its not that I care what they think about you, but I just dont like the idea. Honey I guess I had better wind this up. I dont have much more room and as you can plainly see am in no moude to write anyway. Give all the kids a big hug and kiss for Daddy and keep heaps for yourself. Your Always Loving Hubby
