Thursday Morning Aug 8th My Dearest Darling Good morning my sweet, and how are you by this time, as for myself I am still ok, just trying to keep dry, yes we are having a real rain for a change. It started in last night about midnight and has been at it every since. It sure spoiled a good breakfast for us this morning, we had fresh eggs, but I couldent enjoy them for trying to keep dry while eating. You know a put tent dosent make a very good dinning room. It wouldent have been so bad if we could have sit out in the open and eat. Honey the mail hasent come yet but I thought I would start this anyway so if I do get a letter this morning I will have had a head start on answering it. Boy the war news is sounding better all the time, or maby it is just my wanting it to end so I can get home to you and the youngesters that makes it sound that way. Lt. XXXXXcol Driscoll is due back from pass to day, I will be glad to see him. it seems that things just dosent run as smoothe with the Btry Commander gone, especially when all the other officers in the btry are 1st Lts and one is afraid the other is going to out do him. I dont see why I always seem to draw the job of helping break in a new Btry Commander, or get some new officer that are assgd to the Bn, but I guess it is just part of the game/ I guess you are wondering how I write all this stuff about them with out them getting wise to it, but I do all my own censoring these days and they never see my letters except to sign them; Lt Driscoll seems to think that I should have the same privialage as the officers as for as possiable, even tho some of the officers in the Btry dont think so, He is a swell fellow and is going to make a good Btry commander with a little more experince. Honey I saw a good show last night, Two Girls and a Sailor, but it wasnet any to good on my moral. It may have already shown in the states but if it hasent and comes there be sure and see it. Honey I guess I will have to wait untill the mail comes to finish this; Well I waited Honey and here it is the next day and still no mail, and now I am the one who has the fidgets. I told you it would be that way. I did get a good long letter from mother yesterday, but I still want one from you.
