Twenty-five high school students from 16 Middle East
and southeast Asia countries are in the United States to
attend the fifth annual Forum for High Schools sponsored by the New York Herald Tribune, a leading daily newspaper. The forum opens in New York City, on March 4, 1950. While in the United States, the visitors are the guests of high school students in various communities in the vicinity of New York City. The visitors are now touring various United States cities as the guests of the United States Civil Air Patrol, a nationwide aviation organization. The tour is
designed to give the students first-hand knowledge of
their host country. During their tour, the Forum delegates visited Washington , D.C., capital of the United States. While there, a group of the students visited (February 3, 1950) Representative Brooks Hays, of the State of Arkansas, a member of the U.S. Congress. The photograph, taken in Mr. Hays’ office, shows him (left) chatting with some of the delegates. The conversation was recorded for a U.S. Department of State “Voice of America” broadcast. Seated in the background are (left to right) Birlanta Horsi Ali of Cairo, Egypt; Jehangir Mirza of Karachi, Pakistan; Harriett Hirsch, a New York City high school student; Yadana Nat Mai of Maymyo, Burma, and Sossilo Sardadi of Jarkarta, Indonesia.
