Frank Vinsonhaler, M.D. (b.1864-d.1942) was the Dean of the University of Arkansas School of Medicine (now UAMS) in Little Rock from 1927 to 1939. He continued to maintain a part-time private practice in ophthalmology at the same time. Dr. Vinsonhaler also taught medical history and ethics at the medical school from 1893 to 1918, in 1920, and from 1927 until his death on September 1, 1942. As Dean, Dr. Vinsonhaler secured federal funds through the Public Works Administration to build a six-story building for the medical school on Twelfth and McAlmont streets in Little Rock (Dr. Edwin Bentley's home site). The new building opened in 1935, adjacent to the fifty-bed City Hospital which served indigent patients.
