Here is a part of the record of the Integrated Public Schools in
Washington, D. C. - our nation's capital - covering the seven
months period from September, 1957 through April, 1958.
Source of information is report to Commissioners' Youth Council,
District of Columbia, by Dr. John R. Pate, chief of District of Colum-
bia Disease Control Bureau.
Total Pregnacies Reported................185
Among Negro Girls..........................169
Among White Girls............................16
At age 12: 5 Girls, All Negro
At Age 13: 22 Girls, 20 Negro, 2 White
At age 14: 81 Girls, 74 Negro, 7 White
At age 15: 77 Girls, 70 Negro, 7 White
Of reported pregnacies, 129 involved girls in Junior High Schools,
44 in Senior High Schools, 7 in Vocational Schools, 4 in Elementary
Schools.
In the city of Washington, children are permitted to quit school
at the age of 16 years. Many girls over 16 years of age quit school
because of being pregnant with the cause of quitting not showing
in the records.
Veneral Disease Increase
A report on veneral diseases for the 12 months
ending June 30, 1958 reveals the following:

To those people in Arkansas who think they could accept integrated
schools, we urge that you study the above facts. Is this the kind
of schools you want your children to attend?
