Froggie Went A-Courtin’
Frog went a-courtin' and he did ride, um-hum Frog went a-courtin’ and he did ride,
Sword and pistol by his side, um-hum.
(Repeat and ”um-hum” as above)
He rode up to Miss Mousie’s hall,
Gave a loud knock and gave a loud call.
Lady Mouse came trippin’ down,
Green glass slippers and a silver gown.
Froggie fell at Mousie’s knee,
Pray, Lady Mouse, will you marry me?
Not without Uncle Rat’s consent,
Would I marry the president.
Uncle Rat he laughed till he cried,
To think his niece would be a bride.
Where will the wedding supper be?
Way down yonder in a holler tree.
What will the wedding supper be?
Catnip broth and dogwood tea.
’’And then there were a whole bunch of guests, and at the end all I remember is —”
Frog came swimming o’er the lake,
There was swallowed by a big black snake.
Lady Mouse she cried and she cried,
Thought to myself she would have died.
So that was the end of one two three,
The Frog and the Rat and the little Mousie.
