Isaac and Betsy they started out west Crossed country in wagon get rich I guess With two yoke of cattle and an old yellow dog And a shanghai rooster and a lighted-spotted hog
They stopped in Salt City inquiring the way Brigham saw Betsy and swore she should stay And Betsy got frightened and she run like a deer
Left Brigham a pawin' up the dirt like a steer
Isaac and Betsy they attended the dance Isaac he wore his Pike County pants Betsy she wore her jewels and rings
Says Isaac: You're an angel but where is your wings
Well Isaac said: Betsy won't you dance with me
I will if we can agree
Don't dance me too hard for I'll tell you why For I'm too full of that ole' alkalie
