Reel 285-286, Item 10
Oh Brother Greene
Oh, Brother Greene, come to me now For I am shot and bleeding,
The Southern foes have laid me low,
On this cold ground to suffer.
Oh, Brother, go, and lay me away And write my wife a letter,
And write to her that I’ve lost my life But still I love my Jesus.
Tell her that I’m prepared to die Although I fell in battle I know that she has prayed for me And now her prayers are answered.
There's two more brothers I can't forget A fighting for the Union Go tell them to love and serve the Lord And keep that pure religion.
My two little babes I love them well Oh, could I once more see them And bid them all a long farewell Till we all can meet in Heaven.
Tell Sister Nancy not to weep For the loss of her dear brother For he has gone to Jesus Christ To dwell with their dear mother.
My eyes are dim, my ears are deep But oh that wondering story When we will meet in that bright world For we will all sing glory.
