Collected by Mrs. Dessie Harriman For Mary Celestia Parler Transcribed by Mrs. Dessie Harriman
Sung by Mrs. Dessie Harriman Japton, Arkansas August 14, 1959
Reel 285-286, Item 14
Dear Brother Green oh come to me,
For I am shot and bleeding.
For I must die no more to see,
My wife and my dear children.
The Southern foe has laid me low,
On this cold ground to suffer.
Dear brother stay and lay me away, And write my wife a letter.
Tell her that I'm prepared to die, Although I fell in battle.
I know that she has prayed for me, And now her prayers are answered.
My little babes I love them well,
Oh could I once more see them.
And bid them all a last farewell, Till we can meet in heaven.
Tell Sister Nancy not to weep,
For the loss of her dear brother.
For he has gone to Jesus Christ,
To dwell with their dear mother.
My eyes are dim, my ears are deep, But oh that wondering story.
When we do meet in that bright world, Where we can all sing Glory.
