Reel 158 Item 1
Oh, if you want to go a-sparkin, I'll tell you where to go,
Down on the creek, roun' here below
Where the girls all sad, and the folks all gone
And the little kids cryin with their heads not combed.
uh, they asked me to dinner and I thought I'd eat,
And they put it on me to carve up the meat,
They gimme me a old knife without ary fork
And I sawed half an hour and I couldn't make a mark.
Sawed and I sawed and I got it out the plate,
And one of them girls said "You'd better wait,"
Sawed and I sawed and I got it on the floor,
Give it little kick and I sint it to the door.
One of them girls said "You 'ad better run;
For yander comes Dad with a double-barrel gun."
Jumped in the door just as brave as a bear
Tangled up my fingers in the old gent's hair.
First thing they give me was an old bear gun,
Notched on the hammer where you ought to put your thumb,
It first give a fire and then give a smoke,
And the next thing I seed was th Devil on the spoke.
Next thing they give me was a old gray horse
Already saddled to throwd my leg across
Jumped in the saddle and I s p u r r e d him with my heel
And the crooked-legged booger threwed me half across the field.
"That's for the kids."
