I Told My Woman
Mrs. Sturdivant: "This is an entry from my diary, on
Sunday, May the 31st: 'The morning is so lovely. I got up
early and cooked breakfast for Dad and me before six o'clock.
Once I get up very early, I love it. I like the feeling of
having the world all to myself. But Pappy is sitting on the
front porch singing.' And here's his song:"
Mr. Sturdivant (sings):
I told my woman 'fo' she lef' town,
That she's a good ol' wagon, but she's done broke down.
Lawd, Lawd, honey, won't you be mine?
