Reel 267, Item 4
The Jolly Farmer
I'm just a jolly old farmer,
And I work the whole year round;
Picked me a bale of cotton
And took it into town.
Put my team in the wagon yard,
And I got a bottle of gin,
Went out on the streets that night
To watch the cars roll in.
Well, I met a dude down on the street
And clock striking nine.
Says, "Come on here, old farmer,
And have a drink, it's mine."
Well, I must have took a good drink or two,
For it hit my pocket book hard;
I wish I'd bought me a half a pint,
And stayed in the wagon yard.
