I went to Green Forest, I hurried to work,
But they come and handcuffed me and took me to court
They hired a jury, didn't cost them one cent,
So down to old Berryville, to Berryville I went.
They put me there lone-lie, they put me there fast,
They put me there lonely to think of the past,
The jail caught on fire, I hollered for help,
No one came a-near me, but they lay there and slept.
The dirty old jailer went after the key,
He seemed not in a hurry but the jail burnt me...
