Reel 82, Item 6
The Lonesome Scenes of Winter
The lonesome scenes of winter,
Inclined to frost and snow,
Dark clouds around me gether,
And chilly winds do blow.
Some people see great pleasure,
But I no pleasure see;
This world is all my troubles;
Misfortunes follows me,
I went one night my love to see,
She proved most scornfully,
I asked her if she'd marry;
She would not answer me.
The night is a-growing late, my love,
It's almost the break of day,
I'm waiting for a answer,
0 Love, what do you say?
If it is for answering you, kind sir,
I choose a single life,
I never thought hit suited
For me to be your wife.
You can take this as a answer
And for yourself provide,
I have another lover,
And you are laid aside.
In the course of a week or longer,
This lady's mind did change,
She wrote to me a letter,
Saying, Kind sir, I'm ashamed.
I'm ashamed of how I've treated you,
I slighted you too soon,
Oh, here's my heart, come take it,
And claim it as your own.
I wrote to her a answer,
I sint it baek in speed,
Saying, Once I loved you,
I loved you onst indeed.
But since that time my mind doth change,
I've looked some other way,
I've found another lover,
More suitable for me.
