Coll. by Ora Lee Boss For M.C. Parler
Kenneth K. Claiborne Green Forest, Ark. Dec. 29, 1959
Reel 333, Item 5
Forty Years Ago
I wandered to the village, Tom,
I've sat beneath the tree
Upon the school-house playing-ground
That sheltered you and me;
But few were left to greet me Tom,
But few were left to know,
That played with me upon the green Just forty years ago.
The old school-house is altered some,
The benches are replaced.
Were sporting just as we did then When you and I were gay;
But the same old bricks are in the wall,
The bell swings to and fro;
It's music's just as sweet, dear Tom,
As forty years ago.
