Reel 410, Item 3 Boogie Piano and the Dead Crap Shooter (story)
Spoken, with guitar interruptions:
... an' I was the piano player, an' dey have me to play at de pahty. Dat's right down here at Mr. Sullivan's place on de farm, he give us to have a little ball at every Saturday
night. An' dis here fellow was shootin' craps, an' I was playin'
de piano. An' he told de fellow, says, "I'm gonna make four for fouteen dollars an' eighty cents." He said, "If I don't make
dat fo'," sid, "somebody's got to go."
Well, didn't none o' us pay him no 'tention, 'cause I was beatin' dat eighty-eight boogie. Ow!! But it don't sound like it on de gitter, but I was playin' on de piano . An' je' to gee you a li'l tech of it
(Here he plays some boogie on his guitar.)
Da's all I was goin' gee you I was playin' on de gittar.
An' so he didn't make dat fo', and he jes' fell back'ards.
When he fell back'ards, we thought he was jes' playin'. An' we all went over dere to him, they did, but I wouldn't, "cause I was too scayed. Dis is Dubbie Dukes!
An' all of 'em said he was dead, an' I didn' b'lieve it.
An' I come out from behind, an' I look down at him, an' dey
said, "De man is dead sho' nuff." An' so when dey said he was dead,
I was standin' dere lookin' at him, but my foots was already gone. An' I had to get out de do' to catch my foots. An' when I caught up wid my foots, I was pas' home. An' we were — Dey took him in
done what dey gon' do wid him. An' when dey done what dey gon'
do wid him—
An' den, another day or so after dat, we had to haul some beans in de sto'. An' they try to git me to go back in there.
But I couldn't make it by myself So when they did get somebody to
go in there with me — An' that's when de beans started to rollin'!
But I was really beatin' it out befo' dat happen. But I gon'
gee you jes' a li'l taste what I was doin'
(Here he plays a rather elaborate boogie on the guitar.)
