Once I Had a Sweetheart
Once I had a sweetheart, a sweetheart brave and true,
His hair was dark and curly, his darling eyes were blue, They persuaded my sweetheart, I never knew what for,
And off they went together to the Spanish-American War.
He promised me he'd write to me, he kept his promise true, The last I ever heard from him: i'll soon be home to you. When the war was over and the boys they all came heme,
They never brought by sweetheart and now I'm left alone.
